Josephine Thrift Obituary

Josephine "Jo" Thrift

September 4, 1935 - March 9, 2025

Fort Lawn, South Carolina - Josephine (Jo) Thrift, 89 of Fort Lawn SC passed away on Sunday March 9, 2025 at home. That was befitting as Sunday is her favorite day of worship to her LORD Jesus and time of rest.

The family will receive friends at Lakewood Baptist Church on Mount Gallant Road in Rock Hill, SC on Thursday March 13, 2025 at 12:00 p.m.

Funeral will follow at 1:00pm with her pastor, Rev. Jerry Devinney, officiating.

Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery 4290 Old York Rd, Rock Hill, SC proceeding funeral.

Born September 4, 1935, Jo lived her life following the Two Greatest Commandments: "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37-39). She loved Jesus with a fierce love! She also loved people! Often saying, "I've never met a stranger; only friends I haven't met yet"

Jo retired from Comporium as a business representative. She loved and stayed connected to this company by leading the retirees' luncheon for many years and volunteering at Comporium's museum, often playing Mrs. Clause at Christmasville.

Jo had many interests such as gardening, canning, fishing, baking, and never liked "not being busy". Her and her husband Ralph spent many nights performing Western Style Square Dancing, and both are honored in the National Square Dance Callers Association Hall of Fame.

She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Thrift Robinson (Mike) from Chillicothe, Ohio and Amy Thrift Thames (Kent) from Fort Lawn SC. A Granddaughter Zoie M. Robinson from Wake Forest NC. A sister, Ruby Griffin Thrift from Rock Hill, SC. Also, many nieces and nephews whom she adored and prayed for daily. She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years (Last 3 in Heaven) Ralph Thrift. Her parents, Frank and Mary Griffin of Shelby NC, 2 brothers, Frank Jr. and Doug Griffin of Boiling Springs NC, and by 2 sisters, Peggy Ann Griffin (infant), Dyan Griffin of Rock Hill SC.

Instead of flowers, which she was allergic to, Jo requests that donations be made either to Lakewood Baptist Church School, or Caring Seasons Health Hospice Care.

Jo was a really good friend of my parents who met her and Ralph when they joined the Circle of Eights square dance club. They quickly became a part of our lives and I've always thought of them as an extended family. Pam and Amy I'm so sorry for your loss.

Jo & I worked together & were also friends. She was one of the first persons I met when I began working there. She helped in the training. Her & Ralph were wonderful folks to know & love because you could see God in them. Jo & Ralph together again. Bless you all.
