INDIAN LAND - Kevin Thomas Barfield has peacefully left this world for a greater life at home with Jesus! Kevin passed away Saturday afternoon, May 9, 2009, at Pineville Rehab Nursing Home after having battled a traumatic brain injury resulting from an auto accident in August 2007.
Kevin was brought into this world May 22, 1980, so we celebrate his new life in the Kingdom of God and Heaven, where he has healed and become whole again and full of joy.
Although Kevin's earthly life was cut short, he did manage to find a challenge which he met and enjoyed, selling automobiles at a local auto dealer. Kevin's hobbies were fishing and working as a DJ, going by the name of "DJ Spleen".
Kevin was a fun-loving, gentle soul and is being greeted at the Gates by his maternal grandfather, John W. Hill; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Moore Hill; his Aunt Helen Bailey; Aunt Dorothy Rowe; Uncle Walton Hill; paternal grandfather, Wesley Barfield; Aunt Cindy Barfield Stewart; all who predeceased Kevin, in God's eternal Glory.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Vickie Hill Robertson; father, Thomas Franklin Barfield; stepfather, Tom Robertson; paternal grandmother, Margaret C. Barfield; sister, Stephanie Marie Barfield; brother, Keith Wesley Barfield; stepsister, Hollis Robertson Neal; and stepbrother, Tom Robertson IV.
A memorial service celebrating Kevin's life and visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009, at Forest Hills Church, 7224 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210 at 2 in the afternoon, after which there will be a graveside service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to No Longer Bound, 2725 Pine Grove Road, Cumming, GA 30041 or Teen Challenge, Inc., P.O. Box 77914, Greensboro, NC 27417.

I was touched recently by encountering Kevin's beautiful grave marker at the Sharon Memorial Park. Although I did not know him, I could still see the joy in his face and could certainly understand how such a great guy touched so many lives. For reasons unknown to us, God often takes loved ones to Heaven earlier than we would ever imagine. For his family, I applaud your "life celebration" as a way of extending Kevin's joy to everyone he influenced in his life. He is most definitely in a better place and having a wonderful time with family and friends that have passed as he has into Heaven.

I just now found out about Kevin passing. I am deeply crushed for your loss.
I believe my daughter knew Kevin. Kelli passed before Kevin, in a high profile crash on Gold Hill Rd in Fort Mill, along with two others.
I just wanted you to know I am thinking about your son and i share tears with you.
much love & big hugs

To the Barfield family~ I am terribly sorry to hear about the lose of Kevin. I worked with Kevin at Harrelson. The only reason that I found out about this is because my sister, also 28, passed away; his obituary was right beside her's. My heart goes out each and every one of you. My family and I will be praying for you.
Deepest condolences.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my own son after an auto accident. The most difficult thing I have ever suffered is the death of my dear son. But I want to encourage you that God, who watched His own son die for our sins, understands your pain, and will be with you. His comfort is so sure, His love for you is so pure. There is an organization called BP/USA.com, which may help you with all the feelings and setbacks you may face as it did me. The Lord led me to that place to teach me deep understanding of what normal after your child's death really is. The Lord will guide you because you trust Him to heal your pain and strengthen you. I will continue to pray for your family in this time of loss. May God's peace keep you and even cause you to be able to help other grieving parents and loved ones. Only those who have lost can understand and be able to comfort others who have lost--and God will use you for
this great work to the grieving. May you feel God's arms of love around you.

We have good memories of Kevin and his sweet dimpled smile and sweet spirit. We talked with him shortly before his accident. He still had that smile and sweet spirit. Life is hard, but God is good. God bless all of his family and I'm sure you all know that there are worse things than death, but it is hardest to lose a child. Our love to all...Ray and Sandra Helms and Chris, Jennifer and Susan.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time. It's hard to find the words to comfort you when I know how hard the loss of a child and a brother must be. You have been good friends to Shannon and she is feeling a deep sadness for your family. Just know that your friends are thinking of you.
