Margaret Howe Obituary

Margaret Teachman Howe passed away on May 12, 2018.

She was born in Westfield, PA on November 5, 1924 to Albert and Lena Teachman. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Scott Howe; her parents; and her sister, Norma Teachman. She is survived by her three children and their families: Robert Howe (Diane) of Rock Hill, SC, Cheryl Pitts (Mike) of Midlothian, VA, and Paul Howe (Karen) of Glen Allen, VA. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren - Emily Howe, Brian, Lauren and Lisa Pitts, Katie, Jeanne, and Scott Howe (Jill). She is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Artemis Howe.

Upon graduating from high school in 1942, she moved to Washington D.C. to work for the United States Naval Bureau of Ships. While working there, she met and would later marry George Howe. They would spend most of their 55 years of marriage in South Carolina. She was a stay-at-home mom when her children were younger and was involved in many of their activities, including being a den mother and Sunday School teacher. As her children grew older, she would take a part-time job at Thomas Tours as a travel consultant. This would become a full-time position, allowing her to travel to many parts of the United States and the world.

In her retirement, she loved visiting family and gardening with her husband. She continued enjoying her church activities - Bible studies, circle, and Sunday School - at Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a member for over forty years. She enjoyed singing and belonged to the "Senior Saints" Choir.

In 2014, Margaret moved to the Manor at Westminster Towers, where she made friends quickly and enjoyed the various activities offered. She cared for those around her and had a smile and friendly word for all. Recently, she moved to the skilled nursing unit there. The family would like to thank the staff for helping to enrich her life during the past four years.

Sometime ago, she was asked by her grandchildren to share her words of wisdom. This is what she said: "Have faith in the Lord. Encourage others to believe. Be a good neighbor by doing for others."

A memorial service for Margaret Howe will be held in the chapel of Westminster Hall, Westminster Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends after the service.

She will be laid to rest at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill, SC.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to Westminster Presbyterian Church General or Missions Fund, 1300 India Hook Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

I remember Margaret from North Minister when I was a young girl. I loved hearing her talk. My folks were Nonie and Ike Robinson. So sorry for the lost. She was a grad lady.

Mrs. Howe was a fine person. I roomed with one of her sons in college and met her many times. A true Christian.
