Sarah Navey Obituary
December 15, 1928 - February 28, 2022
Fort Mill, South Carolina - Sarah Farris Navey died peacefully at her home on February 28. A native of Rutherford County, Sarah was the daughter of Hiram Lee and Ina Robertson Farris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, James Howard Navey, and two brothers, Edwin and Richard.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 5th at 3:00 pm at Unity Cemetery in Fort Mill, SC. The family will receive friends at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill the night before from 5 to 7 and from 1:30 to 2:30 prior to the service.
Sarah was a graduate of Sunshine High School, Gardner Webb Junior College, and Appalachian State Teachers College. She enjoyed a long teaching career which included schools in Enochville, East Flat Rock, Mount Holly, and Charlotte. During her retirement years in Fort Mill, Sarah enjoyed reading, making bead jewelry, walking, and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed her beloved dog and companion, Barney.
Surviving are two daughters, Cathy Brooks (Troy) of Gastonia and Deborah Burriss (Andy) of Rock Hill; her son, Jim Navey (Tori) of Fort Mill; five grandchildren, Sarah Brooks Sells (Sam) and Matthew Brooks (Leslie) of Gastonia; Drew Burriss (Rebecca) of Marietta, Georgia; James Navey of Fort Mill; and Laura Navey of Gastonia; and six great-grandchildren, Thomas (Kendall) and Madelyn Brooks, Jacob and Joshua Sells, and Jack and Emily Burriss. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Pat Reilly, Pat Harrill, and Bernice Navey and many nephews and nieces.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers from Home Instead, Kim, Melissa, Andrea, and Jennifer, and her hospice nurse, Sonja, for the care and compassion they provided for the last few years.
Memorials may be made to Covenant Baptist Church (3131 Erskine Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054).
Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill, SC is in charge of arrangements.

I am so sad to read about Sarah`s passing. She and I worked together at Berryhill Elementary. She was an outstanding teacher. She was always finding new methods of teaching and making sure she reached every child. My prayers are with you all. May she rest in peace.
