Thomas Rayford "Ray" Philbeck

FORT MILL - Mr. Thomas Rayford "Ray" Philbeck, 74, of Fort Mill, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Gouch officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

Born in Fort Mill, Mr. Philbeck was a son of the late Teddy Roosevelt Philbeck and Margaret Marie Huskey Philbeck. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Philbeck was a former Fort Mill Police Office and later was employed at the York County Sheriff's Department where he later retired. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Hardee's Coffee Club. He enjoyed working on muscle cars.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Philbeck; two sons, Tim Philbeck and wife, Alberta of York and Doug Philbeck of Fort Mill; his daughter, Anne Jessee of Indian Land; two brothers, the Rev. Norman Philbeck and wife Patsy of Cowpens and Barry Philbeck and wife, Angela of Rock Hill; a sister, Janice P. Young and husband, Herb of Melrose, Fla.; a grandson, Dustin Jessee and wife, Lara of Fort Mill; and a great-grandson, Weston Jessee. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Philbeck.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at the home.
