Durham, North Carolina - Mr. William Guthrie was born September 24,1946 in York South Carolina. He was the son of Issac Guthrie (late) and Josie Coln Guthrie. He transitioned on Friday July 19, 2024 at the home of Nadia Guthrie-Stinson in Durham , North Carolina.

William Francis Guthrie was educated in the York County School District. He graduated Jefferson High school in 1964. He was a dedicated husband and father. He loved reading, debating politics, tinkering with new technology, gardening and fostering stray animals.

William Guthrie server over 28 years in the Armed Forces including 22 years in the Active National Guard. A dedicated soldier band professional , William earned numerous awards and official honors. The following is a small sample of these accolades: The Meritorious Service Medal, The Department of the Army Achievement Medal, and The Department of the Army Commendation Medal. William "Gus" Guthrie retired from the Armed Services February 29, 1996 as Master Sergeant. He later received a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Bill Clinton stating his rank as Sergeant Major William Guthrie.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday July 27, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church in York ,South Carolina.
