Corey Smith Obituary

Corey Joseph Smith, 34, of Lincoln Township died Sunday, May 8, 2022, at his residence.

Services celebrating his life will be held later this summer. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township.

Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Corey was born on Jan. 20, 1988, in Berrien Center to Kevin and Tamara Smith.

He was disabled since birth with cystic fibrosis and was a lung transplant survivor since March 16, 2009. He liked all kind of sports, including skateboarding, fishing, bowling, trail riding, hunting and soccer. Corey was an outdoorsman. He also liked to watch movies. He loved to make people laugh and was quite the jokester. Corey was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.

His family includes his mother, Tamara Smith, of Lincoln Township; his daughter, Loraine Ritchie of Coloma; his brother, Kevin C. Smith, of Auburndale, Fla.; his two sisters: Jessica (Saul) Sorrels Velesquez of Auburndale, and Cynthia Sorrels of Benton Harbor; his many aunts and uncles and his nieces and nephews: Samuel Kirby, Ashley Kirby, Christopher Kirby, Joseph Cromer, Nicole Shell, Holly Sorrels, Kaylynn Sorrels-Shell, Mario Velesquez. His family also includes uncle Todd McKie and aunt Kathie Moore and family and a host of friends and family in Florida, California and Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Billie and Barbara McKie, and Richard and Fran Smith; and aunt Robin Flyn.
