Dan was born Aug. 16, 1950, in Benton Harbor to Edward and Lucille (Hauch) Kunst.
Dan worked for many years as a machinist for Benton Harbor Engineering and was also the owner of his own landscaping business, Dan's Landscaping. His love of horticulture was shared with the Rhododendron Club of St. Joseph, and his eye for nature and scenery was best captured as a member of the St. Joseph Camera Club.
Dan will best be remembered as Dancin' Dan; he was an icon in St. Joseph and the surrounding area. Dan enjoyed following his favorite bands around town and beyond, and in turn, the bands loved to have Dan get the party started on the dance floor. You could always find Dan doing what he loved, dancing and enjoying life.
Dan is survived by his mother, Lucille Kunst; his sisters: Karen (Kevin) Bailey, and Joan Hires; nieces and nephews: Deborah Weir, Amy Oviatt, Terri Rienland, Douglas Schlipp, and Charles Hires VI; nine great-nieces and nephews; and eight great-great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Kunst; and his brother-in-law, Charles Hires.

So sad to hear of Dan's passing. We met years ago joining the Azalea Society and the Rhododendron Society. He was truly an encyclopedia on plants. He's finally at peace. I will miss my good friend.
