James Jeffries Obituary

James "TadPole" Thomas Jeffries, 79, of Benton Harbor departed this life on Aug. 11, 2025. A memorial service will be Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Please visit www.robbinsbrothersfh.com to sign the guest book online.

James was born April 16, 1946, in Ridley, Tenn., to the union of Johnny Jeffries and Gladys Pope-Jeffries. James was one of two children born in this union.

The family relocated to Benton Harbor while James was at an early age. He and his sister, Joanne Stewart, were educated in the Benton Harbor Area Schools system.

After his short stint in the U.S. Army, James returned from the Vietnam War seeking a higher level of education. He worked as a case manager for numerous years before retiring.

James never decided to marry, however, he did father three boys with Genette "Drake" Byrd. James had a select few family and friends who he held close to heart.

James leaves to cherish his memory, his sons: Anthony (Evelyn) Drake and Ronnie (Twink) Drake; sister, Joanne Stewart; eight grandkids, nine great-grandkids; two great-great-grandkids; nephew, Antonio (Linda) Jeffries; niece, Antoinette (Quetin) Bey and a host of cousins, family and friends.

James is preceded in death by, both parents; son, Bobby J. Drake; granddaughter, Tonya L. Thomas and sister, Beverly Fields.
