Janet's life began Feb. 18, 1937, in Watervliet, Mich. She spent her childhood growing up in Coloma on her parents' farm. She graduated from Coloma High School as a member of the Class of 1955. Janet was a self-starter and proud of being completely independent her whole life. Being naturally good at math enabled Janet to become a self-taught bookkeeper at the age of 23.
She began her career in St. Joseph, Mich., at West Michigan Electric in 1960, and ended her career at the Typehouse, also in St. Joseph. At the Typehouse, she was the head bookkeeper for 46 years, retiring in 2011 at the age of 75. She was respected as an honest, hard-working person.
Family was the most important thing to Janet. She made a great effort to keep in touch with all family members, including several cousins near and far. She loved all family gatherings, hosting Christmas Eve at her home every year. Janet loved going antiquing, going to estate sales, going to art shows and finding special, unique gifts for her loved ones. She was always a thoughtful and generous gift giver.
Janet loved helping others in any way she could. She enjoyed volunteering at Corewell Health Lakeland hospital in the gift shop for the last 14 years, greeting all the customers with a smile and friendly conversation. This is where she met her good friends Tina and Mike Kirby. She had lots of adventures with their dog Ushi, who she took care of on several occasions when they traveled. She also watched several pets for other friends and family, whenever she was asked.
Janet leaves behind her sister Sharon (Chuck) Watts. Also four beloved nieces who meant the world to her: Lisa (Gerry) Green, Pamela Watts, Tricia (Bob) Salvano and Leanne (Travis) Gambee. She also enjoyed engaging in the activities of her seven great-nieces and three great-nephews: Haley and Ethan Green, Justin (Nicole) Salvano, Morgan, Madelyn and Jake Salvano, Lindsay (Joseph) Wright, Delaney, Noella and Avery Phelan. Janet was especially excited for the upcoming birth of her great-great-nephew in October. We all have so many cherished memories with her. She will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents Claude and Stella (O'Riley) Tacy.
