Matthew David "Matt" Sisson, 36, formerly of Stevensville passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, in Houghton, Mich.
A memorial tribute for Matt will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, with Sondra Levin officiating. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Matt's name may be made to Michigan Technological University. Matt was born Aug. 18, 1988, in St. Joseph to William "Bill" and Lynn (Goldbaum) Sisson. He graduated from Lakeshore High School, Class of 2006, and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan. Matt enrolled at Michigan Tech in Houghton where he earned his master's degree and was currently a Ph.D. student in the materials science and engineering program, a member of the CommUNITY Education Team and an active leader in Graduate Student Government (GSG), where he currently served as vice president.
Matt was an avid video gamer and enjoyed playing broomball at Michigan Tech. He enjoyed motorcycling and cherished the trip he and his father made on their motorcycles to Alaska and the Arctic Circle.
Matt is survived by his parents: Bill Sisson and Lynn Sisson, both of Benton Harbor; his brother and sister: Paul (Cindy) Sisson of Mountainair, N.M., Gail (Chris) Gorske of Waterford, Mich.; his uncles: Donald M. (Abby) Goldbaum of New Albany, Ohio, Richard H. (Judy) Goldbaum of Wilmington, De.; cousins: Dan (Alyeh) Goldbaum, Jay (Kristin) Goldbaum, Micah (Rachel) Goldbaum and Tammy Goldbaum; his two good friends: Shane (Jacquline) Ross of St. Joseph, Phil (Amber) Sirk of St. Joseph and his feline companions: Lemmy and Nami.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and the family feline companions: Preeka and Harry.

Dear Bill and Lynn- Extremely saddened to learn of the loss of Matt- He was such a shining soul!
I will cherish even more the pleasure of experiencing him as a child; and playmate to Sam especially during their elementary days. I knew he would accomplish big things!! Please know how lovingly we think of him..
