Melvin Pullen

On Feb. 7, 2024, Melvin Pullen, 67, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend transitioned to his Heavenly home.

A celebration of life service will be Saturday, Feb. 17, at Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, 204 S. Fair Ave., with visitation at 10 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m. Guest book may be signed at robbinsbrothersfh.com.

Melvin was born to the late Ernest and Virginia Pullen on July 17, 1956, in Chicago.

At an early age he moved to Benton Harbor and attended Benton Harbor Area Schools (BHAS).

After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Spring Arbor University.

He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at St. Mark Baptist Church. Melvin became a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he became a deacon.

Melvin's employment included being a director of the Salvation Army Men's Shelter, a substitute teacher for the BHAS, a supervisor for First Chance Inc., and JVIS Manufacturing.

Loving memories will stay in the hearts of his wife, Solita; children: Rashad Carter, Don R. Alexander, Achiles (Alicia) Stansberry, Akeem Osby and Elvis Osby; goddaughter, Char Nese Rice; siblings: Willie E. Pullen, Laura Watson, Napoleon Pullen, Henry Pullen, Arlene Williams, Edward Austin, Kelvin Pullen, Doris (Eric) Woodson and Linda Austin; a special friend, Burnette Alexander; 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Ernest and Vincent Pullen, sister, Eunice Traylor, and godson, Maurice McKenzie.
