Mona Kay (Kirchner) MacKimmie, 86, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, while in palliative care at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Ind.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, with Pastor Dan Colthorp officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends can visit from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel.

Mona was born Dec. 5, 1934, in Hammond, Ind., to Paul Henry Kirchner and Jesse Marion (Cox) Kirchner.

Mona married Jim MacKimmie on April 12, 1958, in South Haven.

She began her 41-year career at Whirlpool Corp. at age 17. Mona had a distinguished career, and retired as a laundry product planning manager, sales at Sears.

She loved to collect cookbooks, and was always looking for new recipes to plan meals and entertain at her home. Mona also loved to read and play golf.

Mona is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jim MacKimmie; her daughter, Laura MacKimmie; siblings, Karen Horton, Samual (Veda) Kirchner, Bethea Scott; and sister-in-law, Norma Kirchner. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Barbara Blake; and brother, Paul Kirchner.

So sorry to hear of your loss. My Uncle Paul Hodges (deceased 2017) was happy you and David Mohr attended the class of 1947 last reunion. Hope your health is good.
