Nicholas Carava Obituary

Nicholas S. Carava III, 76, of Seymour, Ind., passed away on April 21, 2022, at home with his loving family and canine family member by his side.

In 1946, he was born to the late Nicholas S. Carava Jr. and Grace (Canale) Carava in Chicago.

On July 17, 1971, he married the love of his life, Kathryn (Morgan) Carava.

Nick was employed at several different companies throughout his career, including Edgewater Group Investments, Sand Kastle Builders, Management Consulting Services, Meredith & Kamp, National Steel Corp. (1977-2001), Ernest & Young, and the U.S. Army as a noncommissioned officer in charge.

He received an executive MBA from the University of Norte Dame and a BBA from Western Michigan University.

Nick was an enthusiastic Notre Dame, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. In his youth, he spent many summer days riding his bicycle to Lake Michigan to swim and climb the dunes. He was an avid bird hunter, and a nationally ranked Cowboy Action Shooter. The love he had for his four-legged family members was something very special as well.

Nick had many interests. He loved boating, fishing and entertaining on Paw Paw Lake in Southwest Michigan. He was a car enthusiast who also enjoyed motor homing and tailgate parties. There was also a yearly trip to deer camp that he always looked forward to attending with his best buddies.

Nicholas is survived by his wife, Kathryn Carava; his sisters, Angelina (Ted) Tucker and Frances Carava; and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces and many beloved godchildren. He will be missed by countless family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas S. Carava Jr. and Grace Carava; and many aunts and uncles.

Cremation services will be performed by Voss and Sons Funeral Service. Funeral arrangements in Bridgman, will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to a veterans hospital, or the local Humane Society in care of Voss and Sons Funeral Service.

I am sorry to have found this so late. Nick was a friend during my time at NSC as well a great boss. He had a "Work hard, play hard" motto which was pretty effective and much appreciated. I remember our business trips out West which included side trips such as to the tonight show, as well as summer nights with the gang on the roof at Froggys in Pittsburgh. Great memories. He understood people and was always sensitive to their needs. An all around great guy.

Nick was a lifelong friend to whom I became closer during our later years at Deer & Fish Camp and any other reason we could find to go to Ludington. A great guy, who had such an interesting career background and was always a trusted source. Sympathies to Kathy and family during this time. To The Whop.
