With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, we announce that Robert Allen Nick, 76, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 31, 2023, following a courageous health battle.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1947, to his parents: the late Peter H. Nick and June H. Tuttle.
After graduating from Grand Ledge Academy in 1965, Robert went on to enlist in the U.S. Army as a combat medic. As a private first class for the Army, Robert saw action in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam and being honorably discharged from the Army, Robert joined the Benton Township Police Department in 1968, kickstarting a 20-year career in law enforcement. After retiring from the Coloma City Police Department, Robert then went into a trucking career for the next 25 years, specializing in hauling cargo through the Rocky Mountains, retiring in 2013.
After retiring, Robert found comfort settling on the Mississippi. He enjoyed telling stories and devoting his time to his children and grandchildren who brought him laughter and joy.
Robert was strong-willed and driven. He was a beautiful person inside, giving generously, and caring deeply for others around him. Robert had a great ability to make others smile, and his deep sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Robert is survived by his children: Caitlin (Alex) Baltazar of Coloma, Jared (Tricia) Nick of Coloma, and Meredith Nick of Eau Claire; grandchildren: Aiden Nick of Coloma, Colton and Ava Nick of Coloma, and Aiden Baltazar of Coloma.
In keeping with Robert's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 23 in Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs.
Memorial contributions in honor of Robert may be made to the Department of Veteran Affairs.

I attended Grand Ledge Academy & graduated with Rob. I have warm memories of playing for the quartet; he sang second tenor. He & my husband, Ken, were good friends & he was the best man at our wedding. RIP my friend. My heart, thoughts & prayers are with his family at this time.
