Sylvia Ann Toth, 88, died peacefully at Corewell Health Merlin & Carolyn Hanson Hospice Center, Stevensville, on Friday, May 30, 2025. Sylvia was born in their home above her father's butcher shop in Chicago on Aug. 22, 1936, to John Toth and Anna (Kusner) Toth.
The family left Chicago to start a market in Bridgman where Sylvia lived for many years before moving to St. Joseph. She was a graduate of Bridgman High School. Most knew her from working at the Cook Nuclear Power Plant during construction and then much later from working at Dr. Rambo's office at the front desk.
Sylvia loved good food and was a sensational cook. Everyone loved her chicken paprikash, fried chicken, fried pork chops, stuffed peppers, and Hungarian Kolaches or Kiffles, keeping her Eastern European heritage alive. She enjoyed crocheting towels for all her friends, giving them as gifts. When out in a crowd, she could be spotted a mile away sporting her iconic huge sunglasses and orange lipstick. Sylvia enjoyed being with her family more than anything. Being a grandmother to Derrick was the best part of her life.
Sylvia leaves behind her daughter, Shari (Asa) Wallace; her grandson, Derrick (Veronica Smuda) Wilkins; her great-grandchildren: Wesley Scott Wilkins and Marlaina Smuda and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Sylvia's wishes, family and friends are invited to her celebration of life at the Navajo restaurant, 8970 Red Arrow Highway, in Bridgman on Saturday, June 7, between noon and 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Arrangements are entrusted to Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, The Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman. Online condolences accepted at www.PikeFH.com.
