Beth Ormond Obituary

Beth Paine Ormond

Rougemont

Beth Paine Ormond, 64, an Angel sent from heaven on a caregiving mission for God, returned home, January 22, 2018, after giving her whole body and soul toward her mission. She is preceded in death by her father, Glenn Paine and survived by her husband Conway Ormond, mother Jo'an Paine, brother Mark Paine and nieces Christy Paine Winton and Melissa Schneider. She was a devoted wife, nurse and caregiver. She loved her nursing buddies (Julie, Beth P, Laurie, Kitty, MJ & Lori) along with her church and choir family. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Durham, NC.

Born Beth Louise Paine in Cleveland, Ohio, April 28, 1953, she decided in the 1st grade that nursing was going to be her life's passion. She received her nursing diploma in 1975 from St. Vincent Charity Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH. While working at University Hospital in Cleveland, OH, she received a call from her parents, Glenn & Jo'an, asking her to come to North Carolina and be the camp nurse for the summer at the YMCA Camp where Glenn was the director in King, NC. After the summer session was over, she started working at Whitaker Rehabilitation Center at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC where she met Conway, who had been in an automobile accident in September 1977. After his third marriage proposal, she finally accepted with the one condition; "Get a job". The two were married in December, 1979 at the YMCA Camp in King. In 1980 the couple moved to Elizabeth City, NC where she worked at Albemarle Hospital. In 1985 they moved to Rougemont, NC where she began working at Duke University Hospital. She worked at Duke for almost 25 years. In 2002 she received the prestigious "Friends of Nursing Heart Center Award for Excellence in Cardiovascular Nursing in Recognition of Mary Ann Peter". She worked through numerous issues including fractured pelvis, knee replacement, sepsis, pancreatitis, two very serious pulmonary emboli, breast cancer, and tubular cancer before having to give up her passion of "nursing" due to the debilitating effects of rheumatoid arthritis. In a last-ditch effort to remain in nursing, she tried an injectable RA medicine which helped but also reignited her tubular cancer that had been in remission for over 7 years. Finally, she succumbed to the cancer after a six-year battle.

Services will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1320 Umstead Road, Durham, NC 27712, Visitation/Greeting the Family at 10 am, Saturday, February 3, 2018, Memorial Service will follow at 11 am.

I am so sorry for your loss and hope that the memories you have of Beth's life and love will help sustain you in your grief. I will never forget how she lovingly took care of and helped her mom and dad when I went to their home to assist Mr. Glenn with obtaining his Veteran's benefits. She and Ms. Jo'an so proudly showed me pictures of Melissa and Christy and talked about their strong love of family. I am glad our paths crossed during this life and know that we shall meet again one day. Love to all her family and friends who will miss her greatly.
