Edward Dykes Obituary

Rougemont, North Carolina - Edward "Eddie" Graham Sykes, 73, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at his home. He was born in Durham County to the late Robert Graham and Dorothy Adcock Sykes. In addition to his parents, Eddie is predeceased by his half-brother, Joe Hammond.
Eddie's family owned Sykes Lake on Goodwin Road in Durham, so he grew up loving the water. He excelled at sports, particularly track. He retired from the NC Department of Transportation after 30 years of service. Eddie loved hunting, fishing and cooking on the grill. He was known for his delicious chicken and barbeque, thus his nickname, Greasy. Eddie loved his family deeply and you'd better not mess with them!
Eddie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Parrish Sykes; daughter, Shannon Sykes Taylor; granddaughter, Addy Taylor; sisters, Gaye Sykes Walker (David), Nancy Sykes Byham (Steve), and Anne Sykes Barfield; uncle, Tommy Adcock; and several nieces and nephews that he loved.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 20th at Clements Funeral Chapel officiated by Pastor Billy Yeargin. Burial will follow the service in Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 19th at Clements Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Mt. Tabor UMC: 4304 Bahama Rd., Rougemont, NC 27572.
