Durham , North Carolina - George O. Cummings, age 75, died in Durham, NC on May 23, 2022. He was born on December 21, 1946, to the late George H. and Norva T. Cummings.
George graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and received his Master's degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. He worked for many years for Akzo Nobel, and when he retired, he continued to work full time teaching at ECPI University in Durham, NC.
George loved teaching and continuing to learn. He especially loved learning about the origin of words, and those were one of his favorite stories to tell. He was very active in St. Matthews Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus. He loved to volunteer with the church. His interests were varied, and he loved playing guitar, small sports cars, and antiques. He loved his family and always help to organize and annual beach trip to Holden beach.
George Cummings is survived by his wife Susan Cummings, daughter Julie Jackson, and grand-daughter Blake Jackson. As well as his sister Lynn, and two brothers Greg and David Cummings. George Cummings was preceded in death by his daughter Kathryn Lee, and parents George H. and Norva T. Cummings.
A Mass of Christin Burial will be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church 1001 Mason Road Durham, NC on Tuesday May 31, at noon. Prior to the mass, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, friends and family may visit with the family in the church.
The burial service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park 3100 White Settlement Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76107 on Friday June 3 at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthews Catholic Church.
