Temple Terrace, FL
Millie R. D. Snider transitioned peacefully in her Temple Terrace home January 28, 2018. Aged 83 years, she now joins her husband of 54 years for eternity. She is survived by her children M. Ruth Snider (Reginald Burrus), Orson L. Snider, her niece Marla R. Davis (Victor K. Bellamy) and a host of beloved cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ocie L. Snider, her brother William H. Davis and her parents. Ms. Snider was born in Siler City, North Carolina as the second child of Frederick Douglass and Lora Ann Davis, May 24, 1934. The family moved to Philadelphia where they were members of First African Presbyterian Church and where Millie graduated from Simon Gratz H.S. and worked for the State of Pennsylvania prior to attending Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. As the spouse of a military person Millie saw the majority of the contiguous United States as she moved her family to seven Air Force bases over 20 years. She loved people and sought to make a difference with every human encounter she had and within every organization she joined. Millie was an inductee of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, served in the U.S. Air Force as a reporter, active in Air Force Wives Clubs, League of Women Voters, Eastern Star, Red Cross volunteer, NAACP, Beta Sigma Phi, past member of Covenant Presbyterian Church Durham NC, Toastmasters, The Gray Club of Durham NC, Temple Terrace Friendship Club, Temple Terrace Garden Club, Church Women United of Tampa, Tampa Chapter of National Epicureans, Inc., and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Tampa. A remembrance celebration will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday March 3, 2018 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home 12690 N 56th St, Temple Terrace, FL 33617. In lieu of flowers please gift either of these worthy organizations in Millie's name- Eno River Association 4404 Guess Rd, Durham, NC 27712, The Traditional Music program of The First Presbyterian Church of Tampa 412 E Zack St, Tampa, FL 33602.
