Raleigh, North Carolina - Our beloved mother, Patsy Smith, passed away at home in the early morning hours of February 21, 2023. She had been under the loving care of her children and Transitions LifeCare.
Patsy was born in Cornelius, North Carolina in 1930 to Preston J. and Lucy N. Bumgarner, joining their family of seven children.
Patsy was pre-deceased by her husband George and by five of her siblings: Perry Bumgarner, Bummy Campbell, Wanda Richardson, Ida Knox and Aileen Stutts.
Surviving are her devoted children: Rebecca and William McCanless; Phyllis and Steven Blalock; Darryl Smith, all of Raleigh; and Diana Lynn and Marshall Holton of Winston-Salem.
Patsy is also survived by her cherished sister Donna Hunt of Beverly Hills, Florida; her nieces Margot Wheeler of Asheville and Ginny Pyne of Beverly Hills, Florida along with many additional nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish Patsy's memory are her grandchildren, all of whom showed Patsy great love and affection: Shelley Blalock, Steven and Kim Blalock and Stacy Blalock, as well as her great-grandchildren: Laurel and Perry Elkins, Sydney Blalock and Jordan and Chase Blalock.
A memorial service for Patsy will be held March 10, 2023 at the White Memorial Presbyterian Church Chapel, 1704 Oberlin Rd, Raleigh, NC 27608 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation immediately following.
