Durham
Dr. Thomas Russell Hubbard, son of the late Dr. James M. and Ethel G. Hubbard, died March 23, 2018. A brother, Dr. James M. Hubbard, Jr. also preceded him in death.
He was a retired educator.
Survivors include his daughter, Jill Hubbard Labat (Albert); grandchildren, Brandon T. Labat, Amber M. Labat and Brett J. Labat; brother, Robert R. Faison (Joyce); niece, Dr. Linda R. Hubbard-Curtis; nephews, James M. Hubbard, III, Phillip C. Hubbard, Robert R. Faison, Jr.; great nephew and neice, James M. Hubbard, Iv and Brittany Hubbard.
"Tom" was a graduate of Hillside High School, North Carolina Central University and earned a PhD from Catholic University. He also attended Columbia University graduate school.
He had taught at Shaw University and Morgan State University in Biology and had worked as Science Coordinator of Dist. 5, P.S. #43, New York City Public Schools.
He headed the Science Department at Northwestern High School. He was a Professor of Health Sciences at Community Collee of Baltimore and later retired as Dean of Allied Health at Tidewater Community College, Portsmouth, VA.
After retirement he enjoyed the outdoors, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity, Inc.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Bell-Yeager Free Will Baptist Church, 128 E. Cornwallis Road. Family visitation, 1 hour prior to service.
Viewing, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Fisher Memorial Funeral Parlor.
