Viola Davis Obituary

Viola Pearl Davis

January 21, 1929 - February 24, 2024

Raleigh, North Carolina - Viola Pearl Holley Davis, age 95, peacefully left her earthly body on February 24, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family in Grifton, NC.

Pearl was the daughter of the late Elasco Holley and Mittie Frances Cole Holley. She married Lynwood Alvious Davis, Sr. in 1949, and was widowed in 1981. Also, she was predeceased by two sisters, Esther Holley Kemple, and Lola Belle Holley Stanley, and one brother, Cleveland Holley.

Mrs. Davis resided in Raleigh for over 70 years. She worked at NC Wildlife in Raleigh, NC for 30 years before retiring in 1993. Afterwards, she truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing cards, reading books, and keeping up with what was going on in the world around her. She loved serving God and serving her Beulah Hill Christian Church in Four Oaks, where she was born and raised, as long as her health permitted.

Pearl was a beautiful soul both inside and out. She never met a stranger and lit up a room with classiness, humor, and the ability to make everyone feel comfortable and special. She truly had a heart of gold, a heart that understood and beat with much wisdom and grace. Even though the world will be a dimmer place living without her, our hearts will carry her love and memory forever until the day we all meet again.

She is survived by her children; Susan Blow and husband Steve, of Raleigh, NC, Lynwood "Al" Davis, Jr. and his wife Lynn, of Grifton, NC; grandsons, Graham Junkin of Raleigh, NC; Drew Junkin and wife Elizabeth, of Clayton, NC; step-grandsons, Michael and Christopher; great-grandchildren; Willow and Luke; step great-grandchildren; Christopher, Zachary, Micah, and Rebel; nephew, Arlon Kemple and wife Karen; nieces, Pat Lawter and Nancy Strickland, and their children and grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road in Raleigh, NC. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Brown Wynne Funeral Home. Sam Blackman, her pastor from Beulah Hill Christian Church will officiate the service. A reception will follow the service.

Pearl possessed a great love for her church and church family. We ask that memorials be made to Beulah Hill Christian Church at 1701 Keen Road, Four Oaks, NC 27524. Flowers are welcomed.

Just now, on March 1, 2024 - learning of Pearl's passing, by seeing this obituary. I wholeheartedly agree with the description of her character and faith shown in this obituary. I worked with Pearl at the Wildlife Resources Commission for many years. In addition to the things said in the obituary, I want to add that she was beautiful, intelligent, loyal and hard working. She was a good friend to those lucky enough to be her friend. I enjoyed being her coworker and friend. My sincere condolence to all the family. I know she is now with the Lord and hope to one day see her again in Heaven.

Pearl was one of the nicest and most helpful person's I had the privilege of knowing when I worked in the NCWRC Game Division in the 70's. A true shining light of help in need,
