Alice Murray Roaen, 81, Rotonda West, formerly of Weymouth, Mass., died Aug. 7, 2008.
Private services for the family took place at her bedside at TideWell Hospice.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, Leonard; sons Leonard Jr. and his wife Laura of Bridgewater, Mass., and Mark of Martha's Vineyard; daughters Sheila Hammond of San Diego, Calif., and Christine and her husband, Peter, Wadsworth of Framingham, Mass.; grandchildren Christa, Russell, Dewey, Gregory, Leah and Cara; a great-granddaughter, Sara; and brothers Joseph and his wife, Emma, Murray of Stoughton, Mass., and James Murray of Taunton, Mass. She was also mother of the late Michael of Cape Cod, Mass.
She was born in Taunton, daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (McCusker) Murray.
Alice was free-spirited and loved sailing with her husband. Over the period of 45 years, she sailed small sailboats through the Island Chain from St. Thomas to Grenada. When she was at the wheel, she was the captain and gave orders accordingly. Alice loved swimming, tennis and a fast walk.
To know Alice was to love her.
