Andrew J. Peters, M.D., 80, of University Park, FL, surrounded by family, left for Heaven peacefully in his home on Friday, July 18th, 2014. A devoted doctor of internal medicine, Andy spent 40 years administering to his patients and their families at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, NY. He served in many professional positions throughout his career, including as president of the National Federation of Catholic Physicians' Guilds and the Nassau County Society of Internal Medicine, and he received the Teddy Roosevelt Award from the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council in 2002.
Andy loved sailing and traveling with his late beloved wife Frances of 50 years, as well as spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Patty Peters-Loaiza; children, Andrew J. Peters, Jr., Lisa O'Brien, Marguerite Offenhauser, and Kathryn Peters and 10 grandchildren, Andrew, Sean and Ethan Peters, Emma, Terence and Peter O'Brien, and George, Megan, Maddy and Charles Offenhauser.
A wake will be held Wednesday, July 23, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 North Orange Ave., Sarasota. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 24th at 12:00 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 7900 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the non-profit organization MA CENTER who tend to the needy throughout the world. In the memo line please write: soup-kitchen. Mail checks to: 8339 Abingdon Court, University Park, FL 34201. Attn: Kathy Perlman.
You left us peaceful memories, Your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you, You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.

I was so sorry to learn of Dr Peters passing. He was wonderful always to my mom, myself & my family while I lived in RVC. He will always have a special place in my heart.

Andy and Fran both welcomed us to the Wright Road neighborhood when we were first married. They were loyal and extraordinary friends and parents. We have special memories of great times spent together. Andy was the consummate host and his unique style will always be remembered. Ken and Sue Ambrecht

Andy was all that was mentioned in the obituary but you left something out…he had great sense of humor and could tell a funny story with the best of them. I still break up laughing remembering those stories...
