Tony just watched a rerun of the 1971 Steve Blass complete game where the late Jackie Hernandez who just passed this October tossed the final out to Bob Robertson. You were In the Clubhouse congratulating everyone Stargell, Clemente, Blass and the entire team. I got to meet you years later as a kid as the great John Hallahan let me batboy a couple spring games when the Pirates came to Miami. I also met you when your worked wit the Braves and they trained in West Palm Beach when you there with the late great Chuck Tanner. My dad always told me how proud you were to be from Pittsburgh and you were a real nice person. The rerun of that classic game 7 in Baltimore brought back great memories. Rest in Peace, time flies way to fast hard to believe next year will be 50 years since the Bucs won that 71 World Series.

i just found out about Tonys passing, I'm so sorry for his familys loss!
I owned a restaurant on Cortez Road at Mt. Vernon
Brian's Sunnyside Up Cafe when I met Tony, he was always a great guy and was very modest when talking about himself. I loved talking sports with him and he introduced me to Geno Clines as i was a diehard Cubs fan
Miss ya Tony! May God bless your family

I met Mr. Bartirome(Tony) in the early 80's as a 10 y/o boy in Chicago...at Wrigley Field. My dad had a friend by the name of Jim(Buck) Bartirome, who was Tony's cousin. Tony was beyond kind...he brought us kids in the dugout...clubhouse..got us bats..balls...autographs etc...I even have a ball signed by every player and coach of the '79 Pirates. I was very young but I remember his kindness to this day. I'll never forget the happiness he gave me through his kindness. I absolutely love sports and he was a huge part of creating that obsession at an early age.
I hope his family can find comfort in his memory..I'll never forget the smile he put on my face at 10.
RIP Tony

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
I will never forget the days spent with him and the family, and playing ball with Anthony during some of our growing years and the times seeing him come out of the Pirate dugout to aid an injured player. He was the best trainer the buccos ever had, a good friend, and a good father. He will be missed.

I worked in the Pirates' clubhouse from 1969-1971 and one of the best things about the job was working with Tony. He was so much fun to be around. He let my brother and I use his car when they were on the road and we were often in on his famous practical jokes. For example, he used to have us flush all the toilets simultaneously which would be followed by a chorus of screams from the players in the shower as the water suddenly became very hot. On my first day at the stadium, in awe of everything, Tony sent me out to get a flonz. I didn't know what a flonz was but didn't want to fail at my first assignment so I went all over Forbes Field asking the vendors, the front office personnel, the visiting clubhouse man, etc. if they had any flonzes. They must have all been in on the joke because no one told me they didn't exist and kept sending me elsewhere. When I came back empty handed and ashamed, Tony said "it's alright kid, I'll order some tomorrow." I saw him at the reunion for the 40th anniversary of the 1971 Pirates and as soon as he saw me he broke into a ribald song we used to sing about the players. That's how I'll remember him, with a song in his heart. I never did get him back for the flonz joke, though.

As a loyal Pirate fan, I cheered for the slick-fielding Tony Bartirome in 1952. Later, my admiration for him grew as I watched him apply his skills as the teams trainer. Often I was honored to have breakfast with him during spring training in Bradenton. May God bless Carol and Tony with fond memories.

One of the wonderful people who made my 23 years at the Pirates the truly special time of my life. Shared many quality times with him including a number of the practical jokes. He has always been in my thoughts when I recall a golden era of the Pirates. Eternal peace to a great friend

It sounds strange to me when the trainer comes out of the dugout to check an injured player, and the name isn't Tony Bartirome, even after all these years. God bless him and your family.

Tony was one of a kind! A loving and dedicated
family man and a top notch poker player too boot! It wasn't IF Tony would win it was how MUCH he would win! Tony was also a bona-fide major league prankster..Many pirate stories surround
Tony's knack at pulling yet another of gis patented pranks. Of course his 3 1 effort was convincing long time team physician Dr joseph finegold that the great Roberto had suddenly passed! He and Joe o'Toole then Pirate V.P. got the Hall of fame replica of Roberto.. placed it on the training table in the Pirates clubhouse..had Doc finegold paged and when doc took Roberto's "pulse" ..e heard nothing and proclaimed, " The Great Roberto is a goner!
Even Roberto..close by laughed at tony's classic prank So long Tony, many wonderful memories..I'll miss you pal!
Anthony and carol..you two were Tony's pride and joys..remember the good times Tony would have wanted that!! olin
