Barbara Ramsey

Barbara (Najjar) Ramsey passed away July 23, 2021 aged 69, after living with cancer for over twenty years. She leaves behind her husband Mark of 47 years, sister Linda, children Jason and Virginia (Charles) and grandchildren Eli and Claire. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia Najjar. She was born and raised in Detroit, graduated from North Farmington High School and studied Linguistics at Georgetown University, earning her degree at Oakland University in 1976. In 1998, she and Mark moved to Sarasota, Florida to be with her parents.

Barb had many passions, including her grandchildren, crafting and crocheting, all things Disney, and enriching her knowledge of the world through learning and traveling. You'd often find her at a piano, playing for family and friends. She supported the sports teams of her Detroit home, as well as the Georgetown Hoyas. But most of all, she had an incredible talent for connecting with all the people who came in and out of her life, in ways large and small. She could make friends in seconds, but kept many of them for life. Whether it was the person on the other side of the bagel counter who she shared a smile with, the grocery clerk, the technician who drew her blood, or a fellow shopper at a garage sale or thrift store, Barb was kind to all and brought out the kindness in all she met.

No services will be held. The family asks that you reflect in the manner most meaningful to you. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Barb's honor to either Big Cat Rescue in Tampa or the Tidewell Hospice Foundation in Sarasota.
