David Averill, 77 of Sarasota, formerly of New Bern, N.C., and Anchorage, Alaska, died on Jan. 22, 2011.
David served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1979. He was awarded the Bronze Star during the Vietnam War. He retired as a major and logged more than 10,000 hours of flight time during his 28 year career.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Betty; five sons; seven daughters; 28 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Sarasota National Cemetery.
