Dr. Edward Leroy "Roy" Fassler, 80, of Sarasota, died June 10, 2009.
Dr. Edward Leroy Fassler (Roy), 80, passed away June 10, 2009, at Palmer Ranch Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Sarasota, where he has resided for the past five months.
Roy was born Dec. 14, 1928, to Helen Potter Fassler and John A. Fassler in Covington, Ky. He lived most of his young life in Fort Thomas, Ky. Roy and his loving and devoted wife, Janet, lived most of their adult lives in Middletown, Ohio, while raising their family, and then lived the past 22 years in Sarasota.
Roy graduated from St. Xavier High School of Cincinnati in 1946 and then attended Xavier University for three years prior to being accepted to dental school. Roy went on to earn his DDS degree from Loyola University of Chicago College of Dental Surgery and was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta fraternity. He was a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force dental unit stationed in Orlando during the Korean War. Roy then completed his oral surgery residency at Cincinnati General Hospital and a residency program at the Ewing Oral Surgery Clinic in Akron, Ohio. Upon completion of his residency program, Roy established his oral surgery practice in Middletown, Ohio, retiring in 1985.
Roy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet L. Fassler; five sons and one daughter, Bruce Fassler of Middletown, Ohio, Dr. Paul (Vickie) Fassler of Cincinnati, Dr. Cheryl Fassler of Nashville, Tenn., Michael (Annie) Fassler of Kalamazoo, Mich., Kevin (Judy) Fassler of Middletown, Ohio, and Dr. John (Sheila) Fassler of Charlotte, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; his brother, Dr. John (Helen) Fassler of Longboat Key; his sister, JoAnn Ficker of Fort Thomas, Ky.; and nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Thursday July 2, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral of The Incarnation, 2015 West End Ave., Nashville, Tenn. The memorial Mass will begin at 4 p.m., with a reception immediately following.
Memorial contributions may be made in the name of Dr. Edward L. Fassler to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota FL 34238.
Arrangements were made through Jennings Funeral Home, 5750 Swift Road, Sarasota.

We were so sorry to hear this news and want to express our sincere sympathy. May the years of great memories be a comfort to you all.
