Edward Mammorella Obituary

Edward Paul Mammorella, 83, Springfield, Mo., and formerly of Port Charlotte, died Nov. 16, 2006, after an extended illness. He was born July 21, 1923, in Chester, Pa., and moved to Florida in 1978. He served in the Navy attached to the First Marine Division during World War II as a pharmacist mate, stationed in the Pacific. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Appalachia State in Boone, N.C., where he attended on a football scholarship. He retired from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons with 34 years of service. He last served as associate director of operations at the U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield. He also served as administrator/director of the Southwest Emergency Medical Service Systems Council, with responsibility for overseeing the installation of the 911 system in 28 counties in Southwest Missouri. He began a second career locally as vice president of Barnett Bank in charge of operations and new construction, retiring a second time in 1989 after 10 years of service. He was a Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Lillie Rose; children John Joseph and William Steven, both of Springfield, Mo., Paul Edward of Williston, Vt., Nancy Ann of Sparks, Nev., and Denise Marie Findley of Santa Rosa Beach; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Mass was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial followed in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield. Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1230 S. Tuttle Ave., Sarasota, FL 34239-2601.
