Flora May Govola, 74, of Nokomis, died Sept. 12, 2010, while visiting Springfield, Ohio.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Terra Cove Clubhouse, Terra Cove Condominiums, 1060 Laurel Road, Nokomis.
Survivors include a loving husband, Theodore A. of Nokomis; a son, Andrew Richard Baran of Manor, Pa.; brothers Nick Mallen of Larimer, Pa., and Ray Dirjan and Dennis Garcia of New Port Richey; sisters Esther Gatto of Sarasota and Millie McCombs of Mifflin, Pa.;
granddaughters Monika Baran Chwojko of Nokomis (Cheryl Duvall, mother of Monika of Venice) and Emily Nicole Baran of Manor; a great-grandson, Michael S. Dale of Nokomis; several nieces and nephews; four step-children, Janet Wertz, Michelle Madison, Ted and Gary Govola; 10 step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; her loving friend, Mary Kay Massia; and many other friends in the research department of Nielsen Media Research.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma and Nicolas Mallen; a brother, Jose Garcia; and sisters Ruth and Jean Dingledine, Jenna Bock and Diana Littleton.
She was born in McKeesport, Pa.
Flo was part owner and manager of Deers Tavern in Elizabeth, Pa. After moving to Florida she became a licensed practical nurse and worked at nursing homes in Venice, where she retired. She later became employed part-time at Nielsen Media Research for the past 12 years.
She enjoyed her Red Hat Society friends with their outings. She was very proud of the fact she had soloed and flew airplanes in Pennsylvania. Flora was a member of the Venice American Legion Auxiliary. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
