Howard Propst Obituary

Propst, Howard Benson
Jul 15, 1923 - Sep 1, 2018
Howard Benson Propst, 95, of Osprey, Florida, passed away at 8:00 pm on September 1, 2018. His loving wife of 24 years, Llwana, and his three daughters, Rebecah, Lorre and Heather, were with him when he passed away. Howard was born in 1923, on a family ranch in Merino, Colorado. He helped manage the ranch, was a high school teacher and coach, and served two terms in the Colorado General Assembly. He entered politics full time in 1962, serving as executive assistant to Governor John Love and then as Colorado Republican State Chairman. In 1968, he left public life to assist his brother Robert Propst with research projects (including creating a unique timber harvester), which took him and his family to Michigan, Georgia and Florida. In 1977, he opened a quick print business and a lawn and garden shop in Orange Park, Florida and returned to his passion for politics when he was elected Clay County Republican Chairman. He also traveled America speaking on the value of freedom in his beloved country. Through this venture he reconnected with Colorado Senator William Armstrong and accepted his most rewarding position as Legislative Director and later Chief of Staff of Armstrong's staff from 1981 to 1991. After retirement and the loss of his wife, he married Llwana Flora Peacock in 1994 and they moved to Osprey, Florida where Howard authored a number of books capturing beloved family stories. He is survived by his wife, Llwana Flora Peacock Propst, his sister, Virginia Ransom, daughters Rebecah Propst, Lorre (Kert) McKeone, Heather Ross; Llwana's children, Luther (Julie) Peacock, Bill (Elba) Peacock, Sherri (Antoine) Rebois; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lewis and Grace Propst, his first wife, Roberta Hope Propst and his brothers, Robert and Keith Propst. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Life Presbyterian Church in Sarasota, Florida, on Friday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. An additional memorial service will take place at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Sterling, Colorado on September 29 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heritage Foundation, Covenant Life Presbyterian Church or Colorado Christian University.
