John Parsons Obituary

Parsons, John Bradford
Oct. 23, 1929 - Jan. 16, 2019
John Bradford Parsons, 89, of Sarasota, FL and Jamestown, RI, formerly of Farmington, CT, died peacefully in Sarasota, FL on January 16, 2019. John was born in Providence, RI on October 23, 1929, to Edmund Selinger Parsons and Mary Grint Parsons. He grew up in Providence and Warwick Neck, RI. He attended Moses Brown School, Providence, RI; and was a graduate of Kent School, Kent, CT; and Trinity College, Hartford, CT.
John had a passion for boats and was an avid sailor. He loved to compete, and participated in small boat races from an early age, and sailed in eleven Newport- Bermuda races, and many other ocean races. He also enjoyed cruising up and down the East Coast with his family and friends. He was a gentleman both on and off the water.
John was a successful and respected businessman. He worked for many years at Aetna Life & Casualty in Hartford, CT, and later as a co-founder of RIMCO in Avon, CT. He served as a Trustee of Miss Porter's School, as well as Director of the Farmington Savings Bank. He was an active member of the Conanicut Yacht Club in Jamestown, RI where he spent his summers. He was also a proud member of the Cruising Club of America, and the New York Yacht Club.
John loved his family and always put them first in every situation. He will be forever remembered for the example he set, his sense of duty, his support and love for his family and friends, his joy and love of life, his integrity, strength of character, and his warm and ready welcome to other people. He exemplified the can do spirit that hard work and positive thinking can overcome the obstacles that are thrown in life's path. His family is forever thankful for this legacy.
He is survived by his wife Carlotta H. Parsons, his sons John Jr. and Peter, daughters-in-law Tracy and Lisa Parsons, grandchildren Ben, Sam, Matt, Josh, Emily, and David, and, stepchildren Erika, Lisa, Chris, and Alex. John was predeceased by his prior wife of 48 years, Frances Hedges Parsons, his son Bob Parsons, and his granddaughter Holly Parsons.
Service dates to be determined. Donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association.
