John V. Sherrard Jr., 59, of Venice died Jan. 29, 2012.
Celebration of Life will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Venice, with a Firefighter Memorial beginning at 1 p.m. Farley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
John was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Venice and retired from City of Venice Fire Department as a Captain after 22 years. He was instrumental in developing the hazardous materials program and it's success, while serving as a team leader for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Sherrard of Venice, Fla.; daughter Abey (Jeff) Drew of Venice, Fla.; son Corey (Jennifer) Sherrard of Kearneysville, W. Va.; mother Rose Sherrard of Arcadia, Fla.; six grandchildren, Emily, Jon, Caroline, David, Chailynn, and Corben; and his bulldog, Deuce.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Venice Firefighters Benevolent Fund, P.O. Box 1316 Venice, FL 34284, in memory of John Sherrard.
