John Philip Worcester, 90, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2016. John was born Sept. 6, 1926 to Margaret and Philip Worcester in Detroit, MI. He spent much of his life in Grosse Pointe and Walloon Lake before retiring to Sarasota, FL. In his early years, John attended The Detroit University School and then graduated from The Hotchkiss School. He graduated from Williams College and then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His career path led him to Comerica Bank where he retired as a Personal Trust Officer. John served in numerous leadership roles: President of the Grosse Pointe War Memorial, President of The University Club, Chairman of the United Foundation Advance Giving, Elder at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, Treasurer of the University Liggett Alumni Association, President of the Williams College Alumni Association of Michigan and President of Kappa Alpha Society. John was a member of The Country Club of Detroit, The Yondotega Club, Walloon Lake Country Club and Prestancia of Sarasota. Some of his favorite hobbies were fishing, photography and coaching his sons' baseball and hockey teams. John and Nancy attended Church of the Palms in Sarasota. John's greatest enjoyment was his time spent on Walloon Lake, MI. There he spent his summers as a child, met his wife Nancy, married, and had many memorable summers with his family. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Jones Worcester, daughter Katharine Getz (Michael), Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, John Worcester Jr., Phoenix, AZ, and Peter Worcester (Wendy), Winston Salem, NC; grandchildren Allison Getz Sullivan (Kevin) Grosse Pointe, MI, Michael Getz, Jr. (Sabrina), Greenwich, CT, Molly Getz Sheldon (Oliver), NY, NY, and Maxwell Getz, NY, NY, Caroline Worcester, Charlottesville, VA, Laura Worcester, Arlington, VA, and Peter Worcester, Winston Salem, NC; great-grandchildren Teddy and Emma Sullivan, Leela and Samson Getz, and Lucy Sheldon; loving nephews John Hastings of Houston, TX, Thomas Hastings of Tampa, FL, and niece, Margaret Marsh of Bentonville, AK. His sister Mary Kate Hastings and brother-in-law John Hastings, Sr. predeceased John.
