Gheldof, Leonard Charles
Jul. 20, 1934 - Feb. 19, 2015
Leonard Charles Gheldof was born in Carleton, Michigan in 1934 and passed away February 19, 2015 peacefully at his daughter's home in Linden, Michigan. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Edna Gheldof, daughter Leilani and son-in-law Vic Lamb, daughter Lauren Kibler, Grandchildren Joyelle & Chris Maxwell, Nathan & Mindi Kibler, Jeremy & Tina Lamb, Cristina Kibler & Cem Iskender, Jillian Lamb & David Wendland and Brianne & Andrew Torok along with nine great grandchildren Brendan, Kaila, Ayanna, Aiden, Emma, Matthew, Hunter, Brady & Jacob and numerous nieces and nephews. Lenny lived a life of service to his family, his fellow man, and his country. He enlisted in the US Navy and served for four years while stationed in San Diego, California, on ships in the Pacific Ocean, and in Honolulu, Hawaii. He met and married his wife and lifelong companion, Edna, while stationed in Hawaii in September of 1957. They lived their life together in Michigan and later in Florida. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. navy, Lenny continued his life of public service through his career as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He worked his routes in Royal Oak, Michigan until retiring after 30 years of service. While Lenny performed in professional career, he always focused on his family as the most important feature of his life. He looked after the day to day details of raising a family, took his family on trips and taught them to fish, hunt and camp. As his children became adults and had children of their own, Bub, as Lenny was known to his grandkids, took every opportunity to be with them. Lenny took an interest in every person he met. Within minutes, he would transform a stranger to a friend, and always leave them with a smile on their face and warmth in their hearts. He would walk into a room of strangers, and leave a room full of friends. Lenny had a devotion to his Mormon faith, and a relationship with God. Lenny was always the one asked to say grace before meals. When he spoke this prayer it was obvious that he had a clear connection. He strived to generously provide people with fresh fruits & vegetables. He was proud to accept the position in his church to distribute food to the needy. Feeding folks was his passion. Lenny will be missed by all who knew him. The legacy he leaves behind is his family, and that is a legacy to be proud of. Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at Sarasota National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Jennings Funeral Home & Crematory.
