Robert Alfredo Obituary

Robert Louis Alfredo of Sarasota, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, died on February 27, 2016. A graduate of Riverview High School and an enrollee at Sarasota County Technical Institute, Robert overcame obstacles to build an independent life following the death of his parents in 2005 and 2007. He grew up at a time when there were minimal services for people with intellectual disabilities, but he refused to allow others to hold him back. He was eccentric, funny and extremely knowledgeable about many things, including US presidential history. He enjoyed listening to oldies and watching reruns of 1970s TV shows. He was a regular at Denny's, where he could be found sitting with his coffee, wearing his favorite cowboy belt, a prized possession. He constructed models of several NY landmarks, mostly with found objects. He is survived by a heartbroken sister and brother in law, who live in New York City, and an aunt and uncle and several cousins, who live in New Jersey. Robert is also survived by friends at Orchard place, where he lived for the last seven years, and elsewhere in Sarasota. Robert was a true original. His family and friends will hold private memorials.

I went to school McIntosh Jr with Robert and worked with his father Louie at Forrest Lakes CC. I have thought of them from time to time wondering what had come of them. I am sorry for your loss. I just today found this. May God be with you.

Like a gardner picks the best flower in his garden....God does this also I believe. I remember Robert...always gracious..always a smile on his face..always busy either thinking or doing something.
