Robert Emmett Andrus, 92, of Venice, FL, formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY, died on Apr. 25, 2014.
Mr. Andrus passed away at Tidewell Hospice House in Venice, FL. He was born in Hardwick, VT. Bob graduated from St. Johnsbury's Academy in St. Johnsbury, VT, in 1940, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (cum laude) from Tufts University in 1944. He was recruited by Texaco, Inc. where he worked his entire career at the company's premier Research and Development facility in Glenham, NY, culminating his career in 1980 as Senior Technologist of Scientific Planning. After retirement, Bob and his wife did extensive traveling throughout the US and many countries worldwide. He served as a guide and docent at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Homestead in Hyde Park, NY and he presented a slide show on the life of FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt at elder hostels throughout New England and Florida. He was a member of the Plantation Golf and Country Club for 17 years.
He is survived by his wife, Veda, son, Robert Jr., daughter, Veda, grandson John D. Andrus and one great grandson, Benjamin D. Andrus. He was predeceased by his younger sister Evalyn.
We thank the Tidewell Hospice of Venice, FL and Venice Regional Bayfront Health for the excellent care.
Services and burial will be held at a later date in Fishkill, NY.

My dad, Robert Andrus, was a proud, courageous, and humble man. I was privileged to call him my father. A dedicated hospice nurse was present with him when he took his last breath. I know he is at peace.

I had the privilege of working with Bob at Texaco Research in Glenham for several years. He was a real Vermonter, something we had in common. Sitting there, smoking his pipe and educating all us dumb Chemists on how to develop Motor Oils.
