Robert Owen Benjamin of Ft Myers passed away April 27.
Bob was born June 10, 1926 in Rockford IL.
While enlisted in the Navy's officer's training program, he attended Princeton University, U of M & John Carroll University.
After being discharged, Bob returned to Rockford & finished a degree in accounting & business admin.
Bob married Lorraine Evelyn Adamson in '48 in Rockford, IL where they started a family & Bob started a long & successful career with George D. Roper Industries. His career took him from Rockford to Athens, GA & Piqua, OH
After 34 years, he retired as President of Enpo-Cornell Industries & in post-retirement became a consultant & Vice-CEO.
Bob was very involved in community service including a charter member-Piqua Hospital Chaplaincy Council; Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce; PTA; 25-year member of the Kiwanis Club; & a founder of Edison Community College-Piqua.
Bob & Lorraine resided in Sarasota FL after retiring. He then started a second career with H & R Block retiring at the age of 89.
While in Ft Myers, Bob was a member of The Village Church at Shell Point Retirement Community where he lived.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of almost 62 years – Lorraine, siblings Margaret Stolen, Marilyn Woodruff, Ray and Dick Benjamin. He is survived by sons - Gary Benjamin & his wife Melody Hart-Benjamin- Cleveland Heights, OH; Dan Benjamin & his wife Janie Benjamin - Louisville, KY & Ted Benjamin & his wife Carolyn Benjamin-Ft. Myers. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren – Nicholas Benjamin-Cleveland, OH; Kirsten Benjamin-Brooklyn, NY; Bryan Benjamin & wife Alysia Benjamin– Louisville, KY; Betsy Benjamin-Hart & husband Brad Hart–Nashville, TN & Shanna Lee-Clearwater, FL & 2 great-granddaughters – Ellie Hart-Nashville & Lucy Benjamin-Louisville.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Historic Chapel of Sanibel Community Church on June 10, 2021 at 1:30 pm which would have been Bob's 95th birthday.
Bob's family is asking rather than sending flowers, contributions be made to one of his favorite organizations -Agape Flights–Venice, FL; Lifeline Family Center–Cape Coral.
