Robert Bleyer Obituary

Bleyer, Robert A.
July 19, 1920 - March 28, 2009

Sarasota resident Robert A. Bleyer, a native New Yorker, passed away on March 28 at the age of 88.
Following his service as a military intelligence officer during World War II, Bleyer became a trailblazer in the early days of network television, starting as a studio page at CBS. He went on to direct such early TV staples as The Ed Sullivan Show, The Arthur Godfrey Show, Playhouse 90 and many others. He also directed more than 1,000 TV commercials for clients including Timex, Sara Lee and American Express. Later he helped pioneer the early cable television and teleconferencing industries.
The Manasota Lighthouse for the Blind recently designated its "Be A Visionary Walk 2009," scheduled for April 25, in his honor.
Bleyer is survived by his wife, Elinor; stepsons Jonathan, Richard and James Salkin; and grandchildren Robert and Zachary Salkin.
In accordance with his wishes, no funeral or memorial services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sarasota-based Manasota Lighthouse for the Blind.
