Robert Gleason Bruce (Bob), age 78, of Sarasota, Florida passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside at 12:50 p.m. on July 28, 2014 of natural causes. Born November 9, 1935 in Sublette, Illinois, he was the son of Bert and Bernise Bruce, and Ruebie Hill Bruce. Bob honorably served in the United States Marine Corps (1955-1959). After serving our country, he began his career as a Registered Land Surveyor in Green Lake, Wisconsin where he met and married his wife of 54 years Kay Edmonds Bruce. Bob and Kay relocated to Madison in 1964, where they raised their three children, Brenda Kay (Bill) Navarre Beach FL, Brad (Cathy) Sarasota, and Bryan (Vickie) Sarasota. Bob and Kay moved to Sarasota in 1984. Along with his wife, and three children, Bob is survived by his brothers Bill (JoAnn), Dave (Barbara), his sister-in-law Jamie (Dave), his six grandchildren, Ashley, Robert, Brooke, Brady, Bryan and Spencer, four nieces, four nephews and numerous friends. A memorial service and celebration of Bob's life will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 at St. John's United Methodist Church 6611 Proctor Rd. Sarasota, FL 34241. The family will receive friends at 1:30 pm and the service will begin at 2:00. Bob will be laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery, with a Military burial Monday, August 4, 2014 at 10:30. Toale Brothers is entrusted with the arrangements. The family would like to extend warm felt thanks to the wonderful caring nurses, therapists, aides, and doctors of The Springs at Lake Pointe Woods for their care of Bob.

Kay, Brad, Cathy and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Bob because whenever I needed a survey really fast (which was most of the time!) he was always so accommodating and did everything he could to help. He was very lucky to have such a loving family. I know he will be missed terribly, but the memories will live on. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sorry to learn of Bob's passing. I'm so glad he was able to make it to our 50th class reunion. We have now lost 59 of our classmates. Kaye I hope you are doing well. My sympathy to you and the family.

Lesle &I were sadden to hear of Bobby's passing.I have very happy memories of our years together at Old Libertyville H.S.& sports.Bobby,Jess & I would hitch hike home after football,basketball,& track for some three years.Our senior year I bought Bob Porter's 1936 Chevy. The the three of us painted the Whiz waggon with H.S. sayings then later hand painted Chiness red.Leslie & I did get to go to dinner with Bobby & Kay in FL.We had a fun time sharing old H.S.memories.Bobby will be missed but still will remain in out hearts forevever. Our very best to te family. Don & Leslie Wilson
