Ruby Watkins Ebert passed away on June 27th 2012 at the Tidewell Hospice House in Venice, Florida with her daughter, Sally, by her side.
Ruby Jewel Watkins was born to Dorsey Thomas Watkins and Grace Gaunce Watkins in Carlisle, Kentucky. Her husband of more than 50 years and the love of her life, Lynn Richard Ebert, preceded her in death. After being graduated from Nicholas County High School in Carlisle, Ruby went to work at St. Joseph's Hospital in nearby Lexington, where she met and married Dick Ebert.
Although Dick's long career at General Electric involved several moves - from Lexington, Kentucky to Cleveland, Conneaut and Chagrin Falls, Ohio - Ruby, with her vivacious smile, loving ways and inquisitive mind made friends easily along the way, many of whom remained close friends throughout her life. Upon Dick's retirement from General Electric, he and Ruby retired to Venice, Florida, in 1983. After Dick's passing, Ruby remained active in the community, serving as a docent at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota and as a volunteer at the Venice Chamber of Commerce as well as maintaining her memberships of the United Methodist Church, the Jacaranda Country Club, the Jacaranda Women's Club and the Venice Red Hat Society. Ruby is remembered and cherished by her adoring family and devoted friends. She is survived by two brothers, Dorsey Lynn Watkins and Gerald Gaunce Watkins and their respective families and her three children: Susan Lynn Ebert and her fiancé Shannon Tompkins of Porter, Texas; John Thomas Ebert and his wife Kathy of Findlay, Ohio; and Sally Ebert Napolitano and her husband Ken of Victor, New York. Ruby's cherished grandchildren and great-grandchild are Susan's son and daughter Scott and Cristina Karpack of Austin, Texas; John's son Tom, his wife Jill and son Jaxon of Bristow, Virginia, and John's daughter Kate; and Sally's sons David, Jack and Andrew of Victor, New York. Memorial services will be held in Carlisle, Kentucky, at a future time.
