Thomas Cail Obituary

Cail, Dr. Thomas
August 5, 1936 - June 26, 2018
Dr. Thomas William "Tom" Cail, 81, of Sarasota, formerly of Chestnut Hill, Mass., died peacefully on June 26, 2018, surrounded by his children.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, July 6th, at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 North Orange Avenue, Sarasota. Survivors include his son, Thomas William Cail III of Sarasota, and Thomas' children, Jaxon Thomas Cail and Caitlin Anne Cail; and his daughter, Elizabeth Allen Brewer, her husband Dr. Jeffrey J. Brewer, and their children, Emma Grace Brewer, Ethan James Brewer, and Erynn Elizabeth Brewer, of Clarence, N.Y. Tom also is survived by his brothers, Allen (Mimi) Cail; and Harold "Hal" (Sheila) Cail.
He also leaves behind his beloved canine companion of 11 years, Zoe. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Anne-Marie "Andy" Cail and his younger brother John Cail.
Tom was born in Boston, MA on August 5, 1936. He graduated from Holy Cross Academy in 1954. He then graduated from Boston College in 1958 where he was also a hockey player. He chose to defer graduate school in favor of serving his country as a Marine where he was an F-4 pilot. On December 26, 1959, he married Andy and moved to Pensacola from Boston. After his tour of duty, they returned to Boston where Tom attended Tufts Dental School. He received his Doctor of Medical Dentistry. He went on to have two successful dental practices in Jamaica Plain and Newton, Mass before relocating to Sarasota in December of 1978. He then opened a solo dental practice and was one of the first dentists in the country to be named a Diplomate in the area of Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ) and also earned National Certification as a Pain Management Specialist.
He expanded his Sarasota practice in 1995 and worked in the same practice tirelessly through his 80th birthday. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Andy who passed in 2010. During that time and until his death, he was a devoted father to his children and was intricately involved in all of his grandchildren's lives. He lived for his grandchildren and dedicated all of his time and attention to each of them.
"Dr. Tom" will be missed and remembered as a wonderful friend by all those who knew him. He was blessed with not only a gregarious personality, but was an excellent tennis player, involved in multiple leagues at both The Field Club and The Longboat Key Club, and loved to be the Captain of his own boat navigating the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Tom was active in the community as a supporter of multiple charitable organizations including The Boys and Girls Club, Children First, and established the Andy Cail Memorial Tennis Tournament named "The Lunch Bunch" which raised thousands of dollars annually for The All Star Children Foundation.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota, Children First, and Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota County.

Dr. Cail was one of the kindest gentlemen I have known. He pretty much saved me when I came to him with TMJ. I continue to go to Exceptional Dentistry where everyone is just as caring as when I started going there 35 years ago. He will be missed.

Dear Tom and Liza.k I went to call your Dad for his birthday on Sunday and the phone was disconneted, so I basically knew. Went on line and read the obituary. I extend to you both my deepest sympathy. I have so many great memories of your Mom and Dad. Christmas Eve parties, Key West, fishing, July 4th, and Dr. Tom was my "special" dentist. He was a LIGHT to many many people and willlbe sorely missed.

Rest in peace Tom and be with the angels.

Dr. Tom was one of the nicest, most caring man ever. When he and Zoe, ( who was an identical larger version of my own dog), would come to the office, it was the highlight of my day. Then I would see him in Publix at the Landings and it was like running into a family member, He will truly be missed. My heartfelt condolences to the family, but Heaven has truly recieved amother Angel and he gets to be with his loving wife Andy once again.

With love and hugs,
