Douglas M. Mehrhof

1955 - 2017

Mehrhof, Douglas M. Of Stockbridge, Michigan, age 61, passed away at home on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Born on April 13, 1955, he was the son of Karl and Gloria (Brucker) Mehrhof. A four-year varsity letterman, Doug was Captain of the Trenton High School football team. He was named Michigan First Team All-State Offensive Tackle. He played football for Heidelberg College and Eastern Michigan University. A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Doug, a sergeant, was the Fire Chief at Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal. Doug was a lifelong supporter of youth athletics, coaching football defense at Ann Arbor Pioneer and JV baseball at Stockbridge High. His commitment to baseball reached all levels of the Stockbridge Community from elementary school tee ball to Sunday adult games. He was instrumental in building the dugouts at the Stockbridge ball field. A celebration of Doug’s life will take place in the spring when the dugouts are dedicated.In addition to sports and his community, Doug loved competing in anything, including darts and Rummikub; playing cards, especially cribbage; camping with his family and friends; and collecting roadside treasures. Doug is survived by his wife, Wendy Hall; his daughter, Kara Mehrhof; granddaughters Illeana and Raelynn Harrison; his mother, Gloria Mehrhof and siblings, Beverly Pratt, Larry, David, Danny and Christopher Mehrhof. He was preceded in death by his father Karl and by his son Andy. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 22, at 2 p.m. at Woodhaven Baptist Church, 21950 Gudith Road, Woodhaven, MI 48183. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Andy Mehrhof Memorial Fund, c/o Stockbridge Community Education, 305 West Elizabeth Street, Stockbridge, MI 49285.
