Dale Hossfeld Obituary

DALE LOUIS HOSSFELD Dale Louis Hossfeld, 72, of Topeka, formerly of Powhattan/Sabetha, died June 12, 2025, at Midland Hospice in Topeka with complications from liver cancer. He was born on February 17, 1953, at Hiawatha Community Hospital, the youngest of two children born to Paul Henry and Louise Dale Hossfeld. He grew up at Powhattan where he attended schools and graduated in 1971. That same summer, he started working for the Union Pacific Railroad, a career that lasted a total of 41 years and 9 months. He first started in track maintenance where he remained for half of his career before working in other railroad programs, retiring as safety training supervisor. Dale married his high school sweetheart Debbie Krebs on February 15, 1975, at the Powhattan United Methodist Church. They started their life together first in Sabetha where they lived until 2013 when they moved to Topeka. Dale grew up in the Lutheran Church at Powhattan where he was baptized and confirmed. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Paulette, and father-in-law Clair Krebs. Survivors include his wife Debbie, mother-in-law Shirley Krebs, brother-in-law Doug, sisters-in-law Cindy and Sherry, along with many nieces and nephews. His hobbies included golfing, rock music, and corvettes, and was a sports fan particularly KC Chiefs and KU basketball. Interesting Note: The night Dale was born, KU was playing KState and won. A year later on his first birthday, they were playing again and won again!! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!! Since Dale spent a lot of his life outdoors, he enjoyed watching birds and wildlife of all kinds. Dale was an avid reader, whatever book he could get ahold of he would read with Steven King being his favorite. Dales's wishes were to be cremated. There will be a private graveside service at the Powhattan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Dale Hossfeld Memorial Fund sent in care of the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha 66434.
