Barbara Ann Towery Poovey, age 86 of Maiden, passed away peacefully Monday, November 25, 2024, at her residence. Born September 26, 1938, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Eula Wood Towery. Barbara was a graduate of Newton-Conover High School. She was a member of Mays Chapel Methodist Church in Maiden. Barbara worked 20-plus years at Newton Vision Center. She enjoyed cooking, shopping and days at the beach. She loved her family and spending time with them. Barbara loved children and babies, and in her last days, she enjoyed caring for her special baby doll, Patsy, who gave her so much joy and happiness. In addition to her parents, brother, Ed Towery and sister, Margaret T. Lockee preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memory: husband of 67 years, Fred Poovey of the home; daughter, Beth Poovey Rudisill and husband, Steve of Maiden; son, Brad Poovey and wife, Kris of Maiden; four grandchildren, Riley Poovey, Nolan Rudisill, Avery Poovey, Presley Poovey; brother, J.D. Towery and wife, Ann of Maiden; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 1, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Mays Chapel Methodist Church in Maiden with Rev. Dr. Jason Guyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
