Barbara Prestwood

Barbara Edwards Prestwood, 87, of Hickory, passed away January 5, 2026 at the Springs of Catawba in Hickory.

Born July 17, 1938, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Silas and Atlas Edwards.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, James, Billy Joe, and John D. Edwards; and two sisters, Margie Hawkins and Gladys Chapman.

Barbara was the sweetest, kindest soul, and those who knew her will remember that she never spoke ill about anyone. She was a woman of strong Christian faith and was a devoted member of West Hickory Baptist Church in Hickory. Her faith guided her life and the way she loved others.

Barbara shared an extraordinary love story with her devoted husband, with whom she was inseparable for 64 beautiful years. Together, they were like two kids on a date that never ended.They were always side by side and found joy in the simple moments. They often slipped away on weekend trips, making memories and enjoying each other's company in the way only true lifelong companions can.

She enjoyed shopping, especially for jewelry, and enjoyed fishing. She adored spending the holidays with her family. Above all else, Barbara loved deeply and unconditionally. Her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Taylor Prestwood; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 2 p.m., at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir. Pastor Scott Frady will be officiating.
