Billy Duncan Obituary

HICKORY - Billy James Duncan, 78, of Hickory, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. He was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Catawba County to the late Marcus and Lillie Sipe Duncan. Mr. Duncan was of the Baptist faith and retired from the furniture industry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Duncan, four sisters and one brother. Mr. Duncan is survived by two daughters, Billie Jo Settlemyre of Maiden and Geraldine Smith of Little River, S.C.; a son, Michael Randy Duncan and wife, Alice, of Maiden; two brothers, Forest Duncan of Conover and Ray M. Duncan and wife, Nettie, of Newton; three stepdaughters, Mary Alice, Donna and Chris; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2009, in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2 to 3 p.m., at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Grove Baptist Church, 6156 Mountain Grove Road, Hickory, N.C. 28602 or Victory Baptist Church, Hickory, N.C. 28602. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.bass-smithfuneralhome.com. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Mr. Billy James Duncan.
