Clarissa C. Bartholomew

HICKORY - Clarissa (Clara) Cloninger Bartholomew, 94, of Long View, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at Lutheran Home-West, Hickory, after two years of declining health. Born Sept. 15, 1912, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Carrie Travis Cloninger. A member of Faith Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, where she was very active in her church work, she retired from Joan Fabrics. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Frederick Bartholomew; three brothers, George, James and Johnny Cloninger; and four sisters, Shirley Marie Cloninger, Claudia Coley, Pauline Orn and Katherine Smith. Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Dr. Carroll E. Bartholomew and wife, Jane, of Newton and Gerald Frederick Bartholomew Jr. and wife, Jane, of Fort Mill, S.C.; a daughter, Ruth Marie Bartholomew Mackie of the home; four grandsons, Gerald Lee Bartholomew of Iron Mountain, Mich., Nathaniel Thomas Bartholomew of Arlington, Va., Gerald Frederick Bartholomew III of Fort Mill, S.C., and Lenny Chad Mackie of Charlotte; two granddaughters, Clarissa Dawn Sullivan of Columbia, S.C., and Katie Dara Dixon of North Augusta, S.C.; two great-grandsons, Wyatt Dixon of North Augusta, S.C., and C.J. Bartholomew of Arlington, Va.; and a great-granddaughter, Jillian Bartholomew of Arlington, Va. The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Harry Griffin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Faith Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jason Eckard, Jeff Eckard, Tommy Cloninger, Tony Stafford, Daniel Randle and John Graham. The family will be at Hickory Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
