Cleo Greene VALDESE Mrs. Cleo Ogle Vaughn Greene, 89, of Valdese, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Autumn Care Nursing Center, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Greene was born May 1, 1923, in Burke County, a daughter of the late Ernest Ervin and Mary Ruth McGalliard Ogle. She was a lifelong Baptist and an active and faithful member of the Valdese First Baptist Church. Cleo owned and operated her own beauty shop for many years and retired from Broughton Hospital in 1990 as a Tech. II. After retirement, she worked as a CNA at College Pines Nursing Center. Cleo was an active member of the Burke County Republican Party, serving for many years as a precinct judge. For many years she was active in local school affairs and once served as PTA President of the Valdese School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Vaughn in 1967 and her second husband, Milton Greene in 2008. Surviving are three children, Gail Vaughn Rogers (Ron), of Lexington, Greg Vaughn (Joan), of Lenoir, and Jeff Vaughn (Maureen), of Woodridge, Ill. Cleo was one of eleven children. There are three surviving siblings, a brother, Roy Ogle, of Valdese; sisters, Valeria Harmon, of Connelly Springs and Margie Hipps, of Valdese. Also surviving are her five grandchildren, Marcus Rogers (Cynthia), of Durham, Martha V. Mayfield (Doug), of Anderson, S.C., Matthew Vaughn (Banu), of Smyrna, Ga., Andrew Santino, of Los Angeles, Calif. and Katie Vaughn, of Woodridge, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren, Vaughn and Malaida Rogers, and Will and Sarah Douglas Mayfield. A private burial for Cleo Greene will be held prior to a Memorial Service at Valdese First Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15, with the Rev. Dr. Noel Schoonmaker officiating. The family will receive friends following the Services in the Ladies Parlor of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Child Development Center of Valdese First Baptist Church, 500 Faet St., Valdese, NC 28690 or Burke Hospice and Palliative Care 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
